Characters

Invent heroes, villains, and trusty sidekicks

Kids brainstorm out loud with Tella, and their idea becomes a real character — with a portrait, a personality, and stats like brave, clever, and funny.

  • Start from a photo — a pet, a stuffed animal, or a drawing becomes a character that still looks like itself
  • Every character gets personality stats and a role: hero, villain, sidekick, or supporting friend
  • Regenerate the portrait until it's exactly right

Stories

Written and painted while you get the blanket ready

Pick who's in the story and spark the plot together. Tellasaurus writes the words and illustrates every page — and your characters stay recognizably themselves, page after page.

  • Characters keep their look across every illustration
  • Stories generate in the background — watch the progress or come back when it's done
  • Edit any page's words, repaint its picture, or swap in your own photo

Reading levels

Stories that grow with your reader

Pick a level per story — the words, page count, and pacing adjust to fit.

Little Kids

Ages 3–5

Short, sing-song pages with playful sounds and cozy refrains. Every page gets a picture.

Big Kids

Ages 6–8

Full paragraphs with dialogue, jokes, and just enough suspense. Every page illustrated.

Middle Grade

Ages 9–12

Chapter-book prose for confident readers, with illustrations at the story's key moments.

More than a story

Every hero gets a whole world

The characters your kids dream up don't disappear when the story ends. They gather a home, a collection of favorite things, and a map of the whole cast — and it all comes back into the next story.

A home of their own

Every character gets a home

Tella paints each character inside their own home scene — a cozy den, a cloud castle, a seaside cove — surrounded by the things they love.

Kid-safe by design

Age-scaled safety guardrails shape everything Tella writes and paints — cozy and gentle for the littlest kids, bigger adventures for big kids, with hard limits on graphic or grown-up content at every age. Grown-ups stay part of the story: we always recommend reading together.

You hold the account

Parents own the account and the kid profiles inside it. Kids create; you stay in charge.

Sharing you control

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Tellasaurus free?

Getting started is free — sign up and start making characters and stories right away.

What ages is it for?

Stories come in three reading levels covering ages 3–12: Little Kids (3–5), Big Kids (6–8), and Middle Grade (9–12). Younger kids create together with a grown-up; older kids fly solo.

Can my kid listen to stories instead of reading?

Yes — every page has read-aloud narration, and reading mode turns the pages automatically so the book can carry bedtime by itself.

How does photo-to-character work?

Upload a photo of a pet, a stuffed animal, or a drawing. Tellasaurus turns it into a storybook character in the art style you pick — and it stays recognizable in every illustration.

Can we share stories with family?

Each story can be shared with a private link — grandparents can read it in their browser, and other Tellasaurus families can save it to their own library. You can turn a link off any time.

Is the content safe for kids?

Tellasaurus is built for kids: story chat and generation follow age-scaled safety rules — gentle for ages 3–5, more adventurous for older readers — with hard limits on graphic or grown-up content, plus safety filters on image generation. Like any AI, it isn't perfect, so we recommend enjoying stories together and reviewing what your kid creates.
